Review: Wicked (the book) and Blogroll Mention!

First off I just want to say THANKS! to Tangles over at Tangled In Texas for including me on her "Daily Reads" Blogroll! I've never been on a blogroll before...excited that someone considers me a daily read! You should pop on over and check her out!
---------------------------------------------
Disclaimer: I tried not to have any spoilers, but if you haven't read the book (and want to) I probably wouldn't continue!

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Maguire

I picked this book because I want to see the musical (as I have for some time now) and thought it would be a good starting point for the basis of the musical. Also, I had heard some fabulous reviews from friends, and was curious about the "other side" of the story, as opposed to just Dorothy's side in The Wizard of Oz. (Which, for the record, I didn't really like. The flying monkeys were hella scary for a kid!)

For the most part, I really enjoyed this book. It took me a little longer than I would have liked though, because some of the language is a bit hard to understand, and certain scenes are described in a way where you really have to "read between the lines" (and most of the time I read while commuting, so reading between the lines is not so easy at 7AM on the way to work!). I had to re-read certain parts, which mildly annoyed me. I still don't really get what happened with her friend, the midget and the tiger in that seeming sex den...

Aside from that, I think the main theme was to see "good" (in the normal, moral sense) as evil, and evil as good, and to not judge things as they seem. You see the "Wicked Witch" as a victim of circumstances in her life- her best friend, her sister, her passion for saving Animals, her schooling, the people she ran into and/or associated with, and of course her green skin. Was she truly wicked? After reading this, I don't believe she was.

It was really interesting to see the story from a different perspective. I like the idea that it borrowed some parts from the original, so you had a way to link to certain scenes from The Wizard of Oz in terms of timing and people. As for the characters, it was awesome having the background on the Wicked Witch- from birth onward. I didn't care so much for Glinda or Nessarose (though I don't think I was supposed to anyway). I wish there was more development with Fiyero's wife. I didn't understand Madame Morrible's role. Nanny was quite comical, and along with the Wicked Witch's wit and sarcasm, made for some relief from the heaviness of certain parts. I would say without a doubt this was a dark and twisted tale.

Throughout the book, multiple questions were presented or popped into my head. My main disappointment with this book was that not all the strings were tied neatly together at the conclusion. I like closure that ties everything into a neat little package at the end. I still don't know why her skin was green, what happened at the sex den (if that's what it was- I'm presuming orgies and animal sex), if the Lion was the cub from her classroom, what happened to Nanny, her brother, her child, and Fiyero's daughter, what happened to the magick book, and why the Wizard was such an ass to the Wicked Witch (other than knowing that she wanted to kill him...which might have not been the case if she knew who he was in her life). Oh, and why water was so deadly! I know some of these questions aren't really important to the overall plot, but again, I like it when the ends are tied up.

Final Rating:
(out of 5, and based on NetFlix scale- which means really liked it, but not loved it)

Did you read this book? If so, what did you think? What are you currently reading?

First Came Polyvore, and now Smashion!

I know I'm not supposed to be shopping. I KNOW! But I can't help it. When deals are this good, I can't pass them up!!

See what had happened was....I was just minding my own business, checking out some blogs, when I came across a post by Blonde Ambition. She was raving about this site called Smashion. Curious, I clicked the little link and lo and behold...awesomeness!

Not only can you create your own styles and search others' for inspiration, but they have a Market, where you can buy and/or sell clothes/makeup/accessories/etc! I knew going to the Market was a bad idea, but I wanted to see what kinds of things people were selling, and the general price range, and shipping options, because once I do my Closet Spring Cleaning, I would love to sell some of my stuff!

So I went to the Market, and came across this beauty:

 Orange/Canvas bag by LuLu= $3.00

That's right folks...one of THE spring colors, cute bag, and only $3 (plus shipping)!!! So, I had to have it, obvi. I did have use self control though. I had two other items in my bag which I removed. And once I do my spring cleaning, hopefully I'll make some moolah!

Tunery Tuesday: Ghetto Supastar- Pras ft. ODB and Mya

I was really about to skip today. I'm just tired and worn out, and didn't have a particularly meaningful song for the day. But then I heard C laughing in the next room over...

C: Baby... "Uknoyoughettowhen" is trending on Twitter. You do the first two- bring your own food to the theater and use the stove for heat...
I can't even say anything- it's true!! Actually, my mom was the one who would leave the stove on for heat, in an apartment where our neighbors actually controlled the heat for the floor. But I wanted to bring food to the theater just last week! So of course I went on and found some more that I do.

UKnoYouGhettoWhen:

- you add water to the dish detergent to make it last longer
- you stock up on salt, sugar, ketchup, and napkins at McDonald's to use in your house
- the only Kool-Aid flavor you know is "Red"
- you steal your neighbor's WiFi
- you ride with the windows down in the summer because you think the AC is using up your gas
- your heart races whenever you see the cable (or PSE&G) guy on your block
- you have a big TV on the floor and a little on on top of it. The big TV broke ages ago
- you have tape around the batteries on your remote because you lost the back
- you don't have a dust pan...you have a designated piece of cardboard
- you tell your child to lie about their age when walking into a buffet (or train, movie theater, etc- my mom did this to me for the longest time!)

So...are you ghetto?!

Where'd My Money Go? - Week of 3/21

Monthly Bills
$0

Extras
Food
$6.00 - Wendy's dinner
$6.00 - lunch Thursday (I can never pass up pulled pork sandwiches- so bad!)

$10.00 - dinner Friday (I couldn't eat pizza again, C wasn't cooking, and I really wanted linguini w/ white clam sauce. And you know what? It was damn good!)
$4.00 - Cinnabon (after 6 hour trip to Tax friend, I felt I deserved a treat!)
Total
= 26.00

Transportation
$5.00 - subway fares to Tax friend
$11.50 - bus fares to Tax friend
$10.00 - train passes to Tax friend (It was 2 tickets- return- but the conductor never checked the 2nd one on the way back, so I can use it on another trip!)

Total = $26.50

Entertainment
$0 - movies (C's treat! We also had a Groupon)
$20.00 - cheeses for winery/beer for the apt
$1 - wines at winery (all that was left in my wallet; C covered the rest)
$5.00 - "Jackass" movie rental (On Demand...for C. I fell asleep 1/4 through it. Hasn't hit account yet though)

Total = $26.00

Grand Total = $78.50

Ooooops. Finally did a  breakdown of the "Extras" - and I spent equal amounts in food (take out), transportation, and entertainment. That is nooo good. On the bright side, I only have to see "Tax friend" (a family friend who does my taxes for me, for FREE!) once a year. I am learning that I spend waste the most amount of money on take out food and entertainment. Those are two easy fixes that I will be working on for the future.

On the bright side, I got my taxes done! And will be getting a pretty penny (all going towards the hopeful India trip)! Sah-weeet! Also, I will be emptying the change jar and putting the little bit I have been saving into an ING High-Yield savings account on Friday (April 1st- new beginnings!).

Also, I will be starting the "30 in 30 Remix Challenge" on Friday to curb spending on clothing. I haven't spent much on clothing lately, but the new spring lines are looking mighty inviting!

Are you doing anything to help save money??

Friday Fancies and Weekend Fun!

Have I mentioned how much I adore Polyvore? If not, I meant to. It is wonderful.
This is as close as I could get to my outfit today. I know I'm supposed to pick clothes that I would normally only dream about wearing, but I *LOVE* this outfit! It's warm, comfy and cute at the same time. It actually looks cuter in person, because the cable knit cardigan has old school wooden buttons and suede elbow patches! C calls it my "grandma sweater" but I love it. If you would like to play in Friday Fancies, visit {av} here!

As for weekend plans, tomorrow I am going to a NJ vineyard to taste some wines with C. We got a great deal at livingsocial- 8 flights and crackers for 2 = $10!! I'll let you know how NJ wine is- I didn't even realize NJ had wineries/vineyards! Sunday I have to wake up really early to get my taxes done. Wah wah. But at least then I'll have something to add to teh savings account I'm opening next week to properly save for vacation!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Jersey Girl!

Today I am linking up with Michelle over at A Little Bit of This and That! As she explains, "I thought it would be cool to see on a map where we all live. My original idea for this post was to ask you where y'all live, plot the cities in which you live on a map, and make a list of bloggers in each state so everyone could get to know new bloggers that live near them. I still plan on doing so but since I received such a wonderful response, I decided to tweak it a little bit and add a one-time link up! {my very first one :)}"

I currently reside in a small town near Princeton, NJ! I moved here to be with C, the boyfriend. But I'm a Jersey Girl through and through. I was born in raised in Northern Jersey (about 20 minutes outside of NYC). I think the best thing about where we live is its proximity to everything else! In about a half hour, I could be in 3 completely different areas- suburbs, country, city!

Some of my favorite things about New Jersey:

Great Entertainment Venues: basically all of Atlantic City, Starland Ballroom, Joey Harrison's Surf Club, Ortley Beach, Prudential Center, comedy clubs, bars/pubs, dance clubs
Outlet Malls...actually all the malls!
The quaint shops/boutiques in Montclair, Hoboken & Princeton
Going "Down The Shore" (Point Pleasant, Belmar, Cape May), boardwalks,  & Six Flags Great Adventure

Great food: Joe's Crab Shack, The Taco Truck, The Rutger's area "Grease Trucks" (haven't had it yet, but hopefully soon!), Halo Farms (freshest, best tasting dairy products ever), Trenton Tomato Pie (specifically DeLorenzo's --and yes, it IS different than pizza!)...not to mention Carlo's Bakery (the "Cake Boss" is down the street from where I work!) and Rat's (10 min away from where we live- the chef won Top Chef last season!! Yeahhh Kevin!

Fairs/ Festivals: Indo- American, Italian, Irish (legendary Hoboken St. Patty's Day Parade!)

And much more!! I'm actually going to a New Jersey vineyard this weekend! I'll be sure to update on how that goes! Hope you will join the link-up so I can see where you guys are from!!

Tunery Tuesday - Where Are You Going? DMB

Where are you going
with your long face pulling down?
Don’t hide away like an ocean
But you can’t see, but you can smell
And the sound waves crash down

I am no superman
I have no reasons for you
I am no hero, ah that’s for sure
But I do know one thing
is where you are is where I belong

I do know, where you go, is where I want to be
Where are you going, where do you go?
Are you looking for answers
to questions under the stars?
Well, if along the way you are growing weary,
You can rest with me 'til a brighter day
You're okay
Where are you going, where do you go?
[interlude]

Tell me where are you going, where do you go?
Where?
Let's go.
-------------------------------------------

Today C and I had some serious talks. I don't like having serious discussions while I'm at work, or through text/GChat. I feel like body language and undertones are important, and sometimes words/phrases/messages can get mixed up when in text as opposed to in person. Plus, we are both doing different things- and we both had to actually do work at some point.

So while I'm not too happy about the way it came up (we were talking about playing the lottery, and then BAM! "Where are we going" convos- thanks for the segway honey!), I'm very happy we did discuss it. I didn't realize there were problems. I mean, I know that we have no money (or it feels that way most of the time), but there were other things that I didn't know about. I'm happy that he felt comfortable enough to bring it up and talking to me about it, even though it wasn't an easy conversation to have. At least the lines of communication are open, and we can start working on the problems and carrying the burden together.

What Makes Me Happy When Skies Are Gray

On Friday, Spring teased us here in NJ. It was a balmy 70-something degrees, sunny and beautiful. Today, I woke up to hail. HAIL! And of course, after my big Spring Cleaning weekend (which I will post about soon!), I couldn't find my umbrella. Lucky for me I have one at work for the trek home. But on gray days like today, I like to find happiness in simple pleasures.

Tidy up. When parts of my apartment (like, the dining room table or my dresser for instance) are too cluttered, I feel like my mind is cluttered, and I can't find anything. Taking a few minutes to tidy these parts up makes me feel calmer, and saves me time and aggravation looking for stuff.

Read magazines. My favorites are Glamour, Real Simple, All You, and Woman's Day. I know, I sound so old! But they actually offer lots of great tips! I like collecting them and trying them out when I can.

Play Sudoku/Solitaire. This is one I do often on the train, when I'm not reading. It just clears my mind of other stuff going on.

Listening to music. This is another one I do on the train. I don't like hearing people's conversations, or hearing them eat, so the headphones really help. Plus, it can be soothing or upbeat, depending on my mood.

Wearing bright colors.  I don't do this often enough, but wearing bright colors on dreary days, even if it's just an accessory, really brightens my mood and makes me feel pretty.

Give myself a pedicure. I've never gotten a salon pedicure, partly because I don't like my feet and don't want people touching them. I like them much better when they have some color on them.

Eat chocolates. Just something small, like a Hershey Kiss, hits the spot.

Drinking coffee/hot chocolate. Insta-warmth!

Call my friends. There are so many friends that I don't keep in touch with, but I like to check in with them when I can. Sometimes I haven't talked to them in like, 2 months, so sometimes these calls last awhile!

Watch Re-Runs or Trash TV. I have a DVR recording for Gilmore Girls. It comes on everyday at 5, but I'm never home to watch it. By the time weekend comes around, I just delete the boring ones, and watch my favorite episodes. I kinda like that I already know what's going to happen- doesn't take much thinking, and I love a happy ending. Trash TV is just fun to watch,...like my reality shows!

Make plans and fill up my calendar. So I have something to look forward to, and I love to stay busy. Though lately I've just been trying to schedule in some "sit on the couch and relax" plans!

Blog. Reading or writing. I love knowing what's going on in other people's lives, and I like sharing what's up in mine!

What do you do to brighten your day?

Weekly Money Check-Up is a fill-in-the blank post once a week. The first four questions are always the same each week and the fifth is always different. Care to participate? Fill in the blanks in the comments section or post it on your blog and link back to here! Thanks for participating! :)
1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on bills.

2. Today I feel crappy towards money.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free/inexpensive thing I did last week that made me happy was putting money away for savings, and setting up an appointment with my accountant to do my taxes!

4. I will consider this week a success if I don't spend any more money.

5. I am thankful for my job. It may not be grand, but it allows me to pay the bills.
---------------------------------

I am feeling like a budgeting failure. How the heck did I spend $878?!? I feel like I get paid, only to have it all go within minutes. Yes, I did have some fun, and see some friends I haven't seen in a while, but I always feel broke! And I still have to purchase a birthday present for my mom (I'm creating a beauty gift basket,...but her birthday was in mid-February!), a birthday present for my godson (his birthday was March 10- I feel like an awful Godmother!), shoes for a wedding, and...who knows what else! Le sigh.

Luckily I was able to make an appointment to see my "accountant" (he's a family friend- taxes for free? Yes, please!) next weekend. Also, this week I am going to the bank. I was recently researching high-yield savings accounts, and my bank actually has a program that is perfect for what I'm trying to do- save for a specific event. This way I can make some interest on the money I'm saving, as opposed to just sticking it under the mattress and letting it accumulate! Plus, I need to put it somewhere where I can't access it. Seriously, it's so bad, and I have little to no self control- if I'm low on cash and am heading out, I just grab from the savings jar. I have every intention of putting it back, but then never do, and then I'm broke again.  I am also strongly considering putting 10% of each paycheck directly into savings- if I don't see it, I can't spend it!

I was trying to create an account through UPromise, but that didn't exactly work. I also heard that ING Direct was a good one to use.

Anyone have any tips on good high-yield savings accounts?

Hi/Lo: Ballet Flats

Have I mentioned how much I *love* flats? Because I run around a lot, and they're comfy! No pinched toes! And they're somewhat inexpensive so I can get them in several colors/patterns.  But....Why would you pay  $198 for these J Crew ballet flats when they look almost identical to these Old Navy ones priced at a mere $19.50?
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm just sayin. Unless they fit your feet funky, or you plan on wearing them everyday for the rest of the year. And see those faux snakeskin ones? I recently bought them...because they are awesome and so versatile!

Thoughts?

Weekly Money Check Up & Weekend Updates

I found this Check Up on My Pretty Pennies today. It's supposed to be done on Mondays, but being that I just found it, I'm going to do a Mid-week check up!

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on paying my debts.

2. Today I feel negative towards money. I want to spend more on me!

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free/inexpensive thing I did last week that made me happy was baking a pudding pie out of stuff already in my apartment and going to a house party.*

4. I will consider this week a success if I call about my taxes, make a dentist appointment, apply for at least one job, and buy all the presents for people in the last month that I haven't. I've been slacking/broke.

5. My ancestors are diverse. I'm half Puerto Rican and half Indian.

-----------------------------------
* Last weekend I went to a girlfriend's house party. All of our boyfriends/fiances/hubbies were at a bachelor party in NYC, so we decided to have a party of our own! I was very excited at first, but then after talking to a friend I was a little worried that all the talk would be about weddings and wedding planning since  a majority of the girls are getting married this year. That would not be fun for me. Luckily there was no wedding talk until Sunday. I don't mind hearing the chatter about weddings, but I'm tired of being asked stupid questions like

"So when are you getting married?" (umm being engaged first would really help in that department), "Do you hear wedding bells ringing?" (only yours), and
"Have you guys talked about it?" (again, we've only talked about your weddings, since we will be broke after attending all of them).

I guess they are asking so I feel included, but I really wish they wouldn't. It makes me uneasy. How the heck am I supposed to know when I'm going to get engaged? If and when it happens, I'll let them know. Until then, I wish they would just continue to talk about their own weddings and fun things like color schemes and music choices.

Other than that, it was a lot of fun. We had champagne (I was happy to contribute my New Years leftovers- champagne doesn't go bad right?!), jello shots- which I haven't had since college!, and beer. We played games- I brought Apples to Apples since it is by far my favorite party game, and we ate. A lot. Everyone brought a little something, and with about 8 girls, that really adds up! However, I am known for not cooking. But I do bake. I was very proud of myself for finding stuff in my apartment that I could bake- a pudding pie! Actually, I had to buy the pie crust, since the one in my refrigerator was expired, but it did help give me the idea. I made it half vanilla and half chocolate. I had two snafus- the first pie crust I baked came out all puffy, so I had to bake another one (thank goodness 2 come in a package!). And then, the pudding recipe says to stir constantly, buuuuut...I didn't. And when I went back to stirring, especially in the vanilla, i kept scraping the bottom, adding icky burnt pieces to my nice creamy colored top. I decided I didn't want that (I picked out the majority of burnt pieces), and then just stopped stirring the bottom all together.

Big mistake.

The pie turned out great- C had the idea to put a piece of wax paper in between the two sides so the puddings wouldn't mix. Everyone loved it, and it was a good idea to make the two flavors because some people had given up chocolate for Lent!** But I didn't have time energy to wash the pots when I was done, so I left them soaking in soapy hot water. Overnight. And kinda forgot about them when I got home the next day. That is, until C went to make dinner.

Let's just say, he was not happy. "You burned all the pots! You didn't stir it! You say you did, but you didn't, because these pots wouldn't look like this if you did! Why didn't you stir it? What were you doing/thinking? Now we're probably going to have to throw them out- they're ruiiiinnnnneeeddd!"

It looked like this, only less yellow, and in a glass pan

He's a bit dramatic. But I was a bit hungover, and him yelling at me when we already know I suck at cooking made me feel even worse. I tried to help him clean them, but he wouldn't let me near the sink. So I went to the Internets (it IS good for something other than wasting time watching stupid videos and stalking people!).

In case this ever happens to you, the secret ingredient is baking soda.

Once I talked him into letting me at them, I just sprinkled some baking soda on the burnt parts, and they came right off- it was like magic!! But I probably will just stay away from making pudding for a little while.
-----------------------------------

** I don't like to get religious, but telling me "Hey, you got a little scmhutz on your forehead...right there" is unnecessary. Especially on Ash Wednesday. Seriously coworker people? Because 3/4 of the office also has that schmutz on their faces, so how about you just mind your own beeswax!! Obviously I know it's there. I don't need you to make a big deal about it just like I don't make a big deal when you take off for your religious reasons!

In other religious-like news, I gave up soda (specifically Coke) for Lent. I figured this is a sacrifice because I have a can of Coke everyday at work with my lunch, and sometimes with my dinner, and usually on weekends. It's my go-to drink (other than beer). But...I could really use a Coke right about now!!

-----------------------------------

Happy St. Patty's Day! I gots my green on, and can't wait to go to the Pub tonight with C and some friends! Hope you are all celebrating too- everyone's Irish on St. Patty's Day!

Want It Wednesday: Wedding Wear & A Convo With C

I have 4 weddings coming up this spring, and I have no idea what to wear! Most of the weddings I went to in the past were indoors, in winter, or specified black tie type formal. So what do guests wear to spring weddings?

$60.00 - Lauren Conrad Chiffon Dress
I like this one a lot, but is it too informal?

This is an Express dress. Love the color and how flowy it is.
Express Chiffon Dress - $89.60 (now 30% off)
I have a pair of shoes that would go perfectly with this. But is it too tight/fitted for a wedding?

Can I wear a maxi dress? They're so comfy.

Help!!
------------------------------

In other news, this is a convo I had with C today:

me: nate dogg died

C: Yes. I heard.
me: wull! fiiiiiiine!
C: I didn't think u were old enough to know who he was [C is 5 years older than me]
me: AAEEEWWW!!!!
C: Heeheehee!
me: u aint cute
C: Actually, I'm super cute
I'm cuter than a basket of puppies

It's a very close call!!

Tunery Tuesday & March 15

I haven't slept well the past 2 nights. I lie awake, for hours, just trying to sleep. Rolling from side to side. It's not that I'm not tired, I just couldn't sleep. I've never had sleeping problems, so to speak. But I don't like it. It leaves me feeling lethargic and generally blah the whole next day. Unable to focus. I guess it could be the time change. But whatever it is, I hope it stops soon. I really love me some sleep.

This morning I woke up and jumped into the shower. On my way out of the bathroom, I closed the door. About 20 seconds later I was in the closet looking for something to wear when *CRASH*. I thought C had broken something in the kitchen. Nope...the full length mirror on the other side of the bathroom door (that I just closed...not slammed, just closed) came crashing to the ground, splintering into a bajillion pieces.

Maybe it's true what they say...beware the Ides of March...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So do you like my outfit? This was my first time using Polyvore, so I'm stil getting used to it, but I kinda love it!
I don't have any pics from my friend's Super-sized, Surprise Bachelorette Party (that I wrote about here) yet, but this is very similar to the outfit I wore. Plus, I wanted an excuse to try out Polyvore! Do any of you use Polyvore? I'd love to see some of your creations!

I was planning on only going to Day 1's events of the bachelorette party, and coming home that night. But I wound up staying over because my bag of "stuff" - workout clothes, make up, etc. was in my friend's car, and when we moved from dinner to the clubs, we took a cab, and I forgot my bag in her car. So I stayed overnight, but C picked me up early on Sunday because I said we had a baby shower to go to.

The whole she-bang took place in Philly, a near 40ish minutes from me. The day started at Magical Moments Dance Studio. I was the first to arrive...everyone else was at least 15 minutes late! Our bachelorette was actually surprised! though she said she kinda knew that I would be there because I put as my FB status "It's like a girls only reunion- and I can't wait! :)"  I was like, how did you know that was about YOU though?! She just figured it was. Oh wells. And she knew that we would be dancing, because her MOH said to "wear whatever you would wear for a dance practice" instead of something less telling like "where what you would to go to the gym." But overall she was surprised, and overjoyed to see everyone!

This is the studio. That was not our instructor, or our class. Our instructor does private sessions in her home, but rented out this studio for us.

We had a private party. The dance was listed as "striptease", but there was no stripping involved. And apparently in the talks beforehand with the instructor, the MOH had specified not too raunchy (our bachelorette is a little timid, and actually so was I being that I only knew 2 of the 7 people there), and not too hardcore, and a good mix of regular and floor-work.

Oh.Em.Gee. we danced for 2 hours. The instructor had actually choreographed a dance for us to Ke$ha's "Take It Off" (how appro). Seriously, I was in pain for 2 days afterwards. I worked out thigh muscles I forgot existed. My arms were sore. And my hip bone hurt from rolling around on the floor so many times. But it was a lot of fun. There is a video, but I will not be posting it anywhere because 1) I don't have it yet and 2) we're shy.

After that we went to the Bach's apartment to take showers and change for the night activities. We took her to eat at a sushi place sin Chinatown, and had a table reserved upstairs for karaoke afterwards. The food was pretty good, I just felt a bit rushed. We got to our reservation a little late, then didn't order right away because we had to dress up the Bach in her light-up Bach sash, crown, and beads. Then we all got name tags, and she got to put whatever nickname she had for us on it, and we had to wear it for the rest of the night. And every time she called us by our real name instead of our nicknames, we got to give her a truth or dare.

I decided to try Green Tea Mochi. I realized I am not a fan, even though I really like Green Tea ice cream. It might have had something to do with the fact that the outside was like a hard jelly consistency.

The game started off really rough, because Miss Batch didn't want to participate. On her first dare, she was told that she had to give our waiter a compliment. She took for-ev-er, then like 45 min later came up with "You're really good at serving us, thank you." Wah-wah. Then on her 2nd truth q, she was asked what her favorite position was. This one literally took her approx 15 min of us staring at her in dead silence until she answered. But after that, we changed the rules a little bit so that everyone had to answer whatever question was brought up. I loved this game!! What can I say, I'm an over-sharer.
This thing is no joke. It comes with a little remote type thing that you can push to either be on/off, or various speeds of blinking...like a walking Christmas tree.

So after a slightly rushed dinner, we had out desserts brought upstairs with us so we could start our one hour reservation of karaoke. We weren't able to get a private room because everything was taken until midnight. I think that would've been much better, because the table we had reserved was in the back center. When it was our turn to sing, and all the TV's with the words were in the front, blocked by crowds of people unless you literally stood on the table/couches (which was heavily frowned upon, it turned out), we couldn't see. So, needless to say, our first 2 songs didn't go so well. We sang:
Yeah - Usher
Down - Jay Sean
Lady Marmalade - Moulin Rouge version (Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink, Lil Kim...and yes, I did the Lil Kim rap!)

After the karaoke, our plan was to go clubbing. Unfortunately, our party planners didn't get that far in the planning. They sort of left it up to the group. Bad idea- you have 7 girls, with 7 different opinions, and only 3 knowing where anything in Philadelphia was. So we took a cab and went to Spot #1 (don't remember name). It sucked. It was too early, there was nowhere to sit, any tables they had were marked "Reserved" and were being watched like a hawk, there was no coat check, and apparently where we were standing was "in the thruway" so we were asked to move 4 times. We would have left sooner (like, after being asked to move the 2nd time) but 3 of the girls had ordered drinks (wine) and we didn't want them to chug. And honestly, I'm not a fan of anywhere that doesn't have tap water and charges you $3 for a bottle.

Spot #2 had a $20 cover charge, so we didn't bother even going in. We then took a cab to the other side of town.
Spot #3 was AWESOME. It was called Byblos.

That's where we spent the rest of our night. They had great music, a coat check, and HOOKAH. I freaking love hookah. Lucky for me, so did 2 of the other girls. But in order to get a hookah, you had to get a table. And in order to get a table, you had to order drinks. This was not a problem for me, however our Bach is a non-drinker (did I fail to mention that earlier? Yeah, it's really weird going out clubbing and partying with a non-drinker. Weird in the sense that I feel guilty for drinking, which is no fun.) But again, some of the other girls drank, and the non-drinkers had soda or (bottled) water. The other problem was that by the time we got to this place, it was waaaay overcrowded. And the only table they had available only fit 4 people. So we had to keep switching people in/out. And the overcrowded part made dancing very very difficult, especially since our table was (again) in the middle of a thruway. But we worked it out.

Note: A hookah is NOT normally/traditionally used to smoke pot. It is used for smoking flavored tobacco. All it does is give you a slightly lightheaded feelings for a few seconds/minutes. We had jasmine- it was delish.

By 2:30AM we were all dead tired. We headed back to the Bach's place, singing Madonna and other older, fun songs along the way, and crashed around 3. Only to wake up at 7:00AM to Bach's upstairs neighbors, who decided to start jackhammering at that hour. WHO DOES THAT?! After that we couldn't really fall back asleep, but we pretended to until about 8:30- 9 when everyone got up and started getting ready for Part 2. Lucky for me, C got up early (so nice of him!) and picked me up at her place, and I got to relax and soothe my still-sore muscles the rest of the day!

Want It Wednesday: Nude Heels Edition

I was going to do a post today about how I don't wnt anything, and I'm very happy with everything I have. Which is true. But then I saw these...

The Christian Louboutin Bibi 140 Leather Platform Pumps $795
And I couldn't help myself!! What I love most about these is the cool wooden-looking patform part. And the chunkier heel make them look a little easier to walk in.

Steve Madden Bevv Pump $89.90

I like these as a cheaper/more realistic version.

Women's Mossimo® Viviana Platform Pumps - Blush Patent $29.99

These are pretty nice, especially since I see nude platform pumps as a trend and not a staple, and therefore don't mind paying very little for something I'll only use one season. But I don't like the shine factor. Maybe I'll keep searching...

Emese Crystal Wah Long Dress in Creme $215
This just goes with the shoes. And it's very pretty and flowy. I could see myself in this on an island somewhere. Hey, a girl can dream!

Cole Haan Stephanie Pumps in Woodbury Leather $298

I know these aren't in the nude variety- they are much better for like, fall. And normally, I wouldn't even bother putting up a pair of pumps I can't afford (with the above exception of Louboutins, because they are beautiful). But  I think these are worth the investment. Because just about every working girl (who works in an office environment) needs a basic pair of pumps (these also come in black, and an open toe version). And what makes these especially awesome is that they are made with Nike Air technology. Which means, it is very likely that these are the most comfortable pumps ever.

Tunery Tuesday: Katy Perry ft. Kanye West- E.T. (Remix)

I can't decide if I like this song yet or not. I think, like most of Katy Perry's songs, it will eventually grow on me. Because ya know, it's another one that gets stuck in your head!

[Kanye West]
I got a dirty mind
I got filthy ways
I’m tryna Bath my Ape in your Milky Way
I’m a legend, I’m irreverent
I be reverand
I be so fa-a-ar up, we don’t give a f-f-f-f-ck
Welcome to the danger zone
Step into the fantasy
You are not invited to the otherside of sanity
They calling me an alien
A big headed astronaut
Maybe it’s because your boy Yeezy get ass a lot

[Katy Perry]
You’re so hypnotizing
Could you be the devil
Could you be an angel

Your touch magnetizing
Feels like I am floating
Leaves my body glowing

They say be afraid
You’re not like the others
Futuristic lover
Different DNA
They don’t understand you

Your from a whole other world
A different dimension
You open my eyes
And I’m ready to go
Lead me into the light

Chorus:
Kiss me, ki-ki-kiss me
Infect me with your love and
Fill me with your poison

Take me, ta-ta-take me
Wanna be a victim
Ready for abduction

Boy, you’re an alien
Your touch so foreign
It’s supernatural
Extraterrestrial
--

Your so supersonic
Wanna feel your powers
Stun me with your lasers
Your kiss is cosmic
Every move is magic

Your from a whole other world
A different dimension
You open my eyes
And I’m ready to go
Lead me into the light

[chorus]

[Kanye West]
I know a bar out in Mars
Where they driving spaceships instead of cars
Cop a Prada spacesuit about the stars
Getting stupid ass straight out the jar
Pockets on Shrek, Rockets on deck
Tell me what’s next, alien sex
I’ma disrobe you, than I’mma probe you
See I abducted you, so I tell ya what to do
I tell ya what to do, what to do, what to do

[chorus to end]

Tales in Wedding Drama Part 4: The "Big Gulp" of Bachelorette Parties

My friend is getting married. Her maid-of-honor is throwing her a
SUPER-SIZED
surprise!
Bachelorette Party.

Activities include:
A strip tease class.

Dinner, games, and karaoke followed by...

clubbing...

Fast forward (a few hours) to Day Two with...

brunch  (sustenance)

and ending the weekend with a spa day.

I obviously cannot partake in all of these activities, because I would surely go broke. I think I'm going to go to the strip-tease class (because I've been wanting to anyway, and now I finally have a group to go with!) and the dinner/karaoke/clubbing. I'll take the train home (so I don't get roped into the following day's events).

Who has a multi-day, 4-event bachelorette party anyway?! ...Though it would be totally fun.
Le sigh...I can't afford my life.

What are you lovelies up to this weekend?
