What a whirlwind weekend! I feel like it has been non-stop since Friday, not that I'm complaining! Friday night I hit up happy hour(s) with Blue for her birthday, and met a bunch of other cool people. The bar we went to was pretty low-key and not overly crowded, which was a welcome surprise for a Friday night.

Saturday morning I was up and out early for Bloggers Beach Day. I was so excited to finally meet Alyssa, Michael, and Jenn (links throughout this post)! I should mention that I'm a Jersey Shore native; I've been going there my entire life, and Pt. Pleasant is one of my favorites, especially since they have a boardwalk. We hadn't decided exactly where on the beach we were going, so I brought along a cooler with some beers and snacks for us.
Jenn arrived first, and found
Martell's Tiki Bar, which seemed like a pretty good place to meet up, and she had even secured enough room for us on the beach- score!
Now, I realize that you can't BYOB to a bar. However they checked my bag, didn't notice it, and let me in. (They also let
Michael in with a steak knife which neither of us could understand.) Things they confiscated?
Alyssa's water from her water bottle (made me empty it) and Michael's sealed bag of chips.
Ooooookay then. So we order some drinks, lay out, chat, share some laughs, the other girls go in the water (since I've mentioned that I'm afraid of
sharks and
man-o-wars and other things found in Jersey waters recently), take some pics (obvi)... and all seems right with the world.
UNTIL.
I mentioned that we ordered drinks from the bar, which we did. But in between, some of us indulged in the beers that I brought, mostly because well, they were there. I had koozies that I placed the beers in, so that you could only see the very tops of the cans. Apparently, that was enough. On Round 1, I was diligent about putting the empties in my (zipped) canvas bag. However, not seeing any security whatsoever, I got a little careless. There was ONE
empty beer can in a koozie when security guards approached us. "We don't serve Miller Lite here. You have two options. You can either hand over all of your bags and dump anything else you have and be "cut off" (our wrist bands, for buying drinks from the bar), or we can escort you off of the beach right now." BUSTED. We readily provided our bags and our wrists without argument. (An afterthought: I would have played dumb and said that "Security" checked out bags when we entered and didn't say anything, but we all know that hindsight in 20/20...le sigh). Meanwhile, our waitress was standing next to us with our next round. The security guards left. I drank my drink while the other girls went into the water. As soon as they came back, I went to use the bathroom. Only, the guards at the deck stopped me. "Your wristband has been cut off. You'll need to be escorted to the bathroom by one of our guards."
EXCUSE ME???!!!
He wasn't joking. He called over a female guard to "escort me" to the ladies' room line. Cue my udder (get it? Get it??!!) I was like, "Um, I really just have to pee. You don't have to stand here." She was like "OK, but you can;t go back in." I was beyond confused. "I can't buy drinks anyway. Why can't I go back to my friends?" "You've been cut off. They'll have to meet you outside." Awesome. Luckily I had my phone on me, so finding me wasn't an issue. Meanwhile back on the beach, the girls were being told that 1) I wasn't allowed back in and 2) they had to leave. It was a "courtesy" that they got to finish their drinks. They found me outside- steaming- but we got something to eat and walked the boardwalk before heading home. And yes, we ALL agreed that the security guards were completely douchey. They were loud as hell about calling us out, meanwhile there were tons of
clearly drunk people falling all over the damn place that no one said shit about. Whatevs. All in all, it was a great time and hey-- makes for a great blog post!

Sunday I was up and out and in NYC to meet with my mom. She works at TJ Maxx and had 20% off friends/family discount, along with a gift card that she wanted me to use since she doesn't shop there. I decided to get a big pasta pot since I didn't have one. We had brunch, and then I headed back to Jersey to meet up with Blue and her family for dinner. They were originally celebrating her cousin-in-law (is that a thing?)'s birthday, but since her bday was in two days, we sang for her too. Her family always makes/has sooo much food. It was great seeing them and hanging out for the afternoon.
I took off on Monday and Tuesday since her birthday was on Tuesday was on Tuesday annnnnnd... well, why got to work for one day and then take off amiright? On Monday we woke up late and went to see Trainwreck. Honestly, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I thought I'd be LOL'ing the whole time and I actually teared up a little! After all the movie snacks we weren't really hungry, so we went home for "Bourbon Day."
Blue and I really,
really like bourbon. Being that it was her birthday, and neither of us had ever had it before, I had decided a few months ago that we needed to try a Moscow Mule. What made it even better was that just a few weeks ago I saw Bourbon and Lipstick's
recipe for a "Kentucky Mule." It's basically the same thing as a Moscow Mule (traditionally made with vodka), but with bourbon. One of the key "ingredients" to these are official "Moscow Mule mugs" which are made out of copper. I will be the first to tell you that I don't really care about what I'm drinking out of, as long as the drink is good. However, I've been proven wrong for sure. The mug makes a HUGE difference, and it was absolutely delicious!! The mugs were so COLD! We added ice and it stayed cooler way longer than it should have, even outside. Like, legit condensation. I'll never doubt proper drink ware again. It was the perfect ending to the day.

Tuesday was Blue's actual birthday. We decided to have an easy day-- we headed to
Bradley Beach for a few hours, and then 10 min over to
Belmar Beach for
Surf Taco. I cannot stress my love for Surf Taco enough. It's basically a summer staple for me. Anytime I can get it, I will. Basically, it's like a fresher, more authentic Chipotle that I associate with solely with summer, since it's really only located down the shore. This time I tried their one of their Mahi tacos and was completely blown away. I'm usually a burrito type of girl, but I would totally put a few of those Mahi tacos away. Obviously it was gone by the time I thought to take a pic. I thought if taking one of the burrito, but they all pretty much look the same, no? So you get a sky pic from the day.
