Hobbi-fied

There are several hobbies that I can get totally and completely lost in. HOURS will pass and I will be in the same spot, trying to find more info about about a certain topic, without me noticing.
Here are my Top 5 Time Consuming Activities:
  • Couponing/bargain hunting. It's truly unreal how much money anyone can save with just a few clicks.
  • Music. Every so often, I "browse host" on one of my favorite dl'ing sites. Again, amazing how many great bands/artists are out there! I don't understand how some of them are not more famous. Right now, I'm loving Kate Nash, The Ready Set, and Eliza Doolittle.
  • [apologies, couldn't get the official video. But it's on YouTube if you're interested.]
  • Blogs. I LOVE blogs. I love reading the things people write- from what they're doing in their daily lives, to those who write about strange news stories (like the one about how the Japanese are charging to sit on the benches, and if they don't pay, spikes come up and poke your booty!), and entertainment stories (Hugh Hefner is engaged?!?  What?!!), and stories from their past that make me laugh uncontrollably (my personal fave for a good laugh are from Hyperbole and a Half and my absolute favorite post being "Why I'll Never Be An Adult" which I happened to share with C who doesn't even like blogs-except mine of course- and he LOL'd as well. Seriously...it's hilarious, and SO TRUE! She is a genius.I highly suggest everyone in their mid 20's- early 30's read that one.)

  • Pictures. They don't even have to be mine. I will browse friend's pics too. Anything interesting/amusing. Though I like my own too, and trying to find pics to (eventually) turn into a scrapbook.
  • Magazines. This one will only have me  obsessed for the short time it take sme to skim most of the articles. Usually I'm just looking for tips to make life easier (All You magazine and Good Housekeeping have become my new magazine-bff's- for reals. Especially after C gave me the most meaningful compliment recently-- he said "You are a good homemaker." I never thought anyone would ever think that if me, most undomestic lass in the land. But he did. And I have those 2 mags to thank for that! And my dedication to following many of the tips!) Oh, and I also browse these for sayings/words that can be cut up into scrapbook material. Interestingly enough, some of my magazines are actually tabbed like this...sad but true!

Wordless Wednesday

This is one of the scenes I miss most about my college...minus of course the falling on my ass part! In fact one of my most vivid memories is of a guy nicknamed "Dan the Jew" (please don't be offended- he nicknamed himself this) pushing me into a snowbank when I was walking his drunk ass down to the local WaWa to get him a midnight snack after he came back from being at the frats. I was soooo pissed. I was like "Seriously? I'm not even drunk, and I'm just being a friend walking with you to freakin WaWa at 1 something in the morning, and you really jsut tossed me into a snowbank!? You A**!!!" And yet, I remember that with a smile, and we're still friends.

Tunery Tuesday: Jar of Hearts- Christina Perri

I know I said I wouldn't do memes as often anymore, but technically this isn't a meme. There are no questions that I am answering. So
Photobucket!!!!

This song is a little sad and haunting, but I like the choreography. And her voice ain't too shabby either. Enjoy!

Snow Day Monday!

Here in New Jersey, we just got a heck of a blizzard!! And I would have totally taken a snow day today (via work closing down or me just taking the day- no way I was gonna try to make the hour commute in this weather!), if I didn't have this whole glorious week off! WOOT WOOT!!

So...I am trying to be at least a little bit productive every day. Even if it's just little things that aren't really important  important, but are on my mind's "to do" list. So yesterday I:
  1. watched and cleared "Pieces of April" from my DVR. It was an ok movie, a bit slow in parts, but overall pretty good. Any movie with a happy ending is a-okay in my book. Though it hit a chord with me on the whole "family" concept.
  2. clipped coupons and went grocery shopping...in the blizzard. But, I saved ~$15 in just coupons, and total ~$35! And we got a ton of food!
  3. watched/cuddled through "Whip It." I was really excited about this movie. It was ok I guess... ya know, happy ending. But again, a bit slow in parts, and a little repetitive. the story was meant to follow her through all the falls and bruises as she works her way up in the world of roller derby, attempting to lead her team to glory; I was hoping it would give some more insight into the actual sport of roller derby, but it did not. But it was ok.
  1. Got lots of coupons. Sometimes I feel like couponing takes ahold of me- it's like a fight to get the best deals...and it amazes me how many are out there for the taking! And it's like a victory when you find a really great deal/coupon...can't really explain it. Guess it's just my inner dork shining through!
  2. Uploaded pics from my camera...from October (C's bday) through Christmas. And posted to FB.
  3. Lit the fireplace for the first time this season and watched the blizzard! Not on any "to do" list, but still fun!
And today:
  1. Did some laundry- bedding, placemats, and bath rugs. Now to fold the whites that were in the dryer (argh!), and put the sheets back on the bed. This may be my #1 least favorite chore. It's in close competition with vacuuming. C is very particular about his sheets. I could care less. And really, my only real qualm with vacuuming is getting the vacuum in and out of our very small coat closet.
  2. Scoured the stove, particularly the...burner covers? I don't know what they're called, but the steel/metal thingies under and around the ranges. Omg...they were gross. We tried to wash them in the dishwasher, but that didn't do anything whatsoever. So I scrubbed them down...took some time and work, but they are almost sparkling now!
  1. Cleaned our Brita. Which had been sitting on our counter for at least 3 days.
  2. Did the dishes, Part 1. Part 2 is waiting for me... (Did these 3 things while C was out shoveling. Love him!)
  3. Went to see "True Grit" with Jeff Bridges ("The Dude" from "The Big Lebowski"- so funny) and Matt Damon (very in character...awesome). I was a bit skeptical about going...I'm really not into Western style films, but we went on a double date with friends, and it was actually quite entertaining. Though I had some trouble understanding what Jeff Bridges was saying...he's so mumbly! But there were laugh out loud parts, and it was engaging, and like, not just a "shoot 'em out" film- there was a storyline that I got into and understood. I wasn't too fond of the ending...it just kinda...ended, with no real resolution, so to speak. Again, hard to explain. But apparently that's how Cohen Brothers movies end, as C explained to me. Overall, I would recommend though. Even though I wanted to see Little Fockers...hmph.
  4. Used our Crock Pot! We got a crock pot from C's parents for Christmas. I had requested it, because I hear that basically you throw ingredients in and it cooks it for you, and that's the kinda cooking I'm interested in! So we found a beef stew recipe online, and went at it. We set it before we left to the movies, and it was ready about 2 hrs after we got home. It was good, for our first time ever using one! (I keep saying "we"...really it was C who did all the prep- cutting veggies, cleaning meats, seasoning, etc.) So it was good, but definitely needed more seasoning. And more time in the crock pot (it was in for 6 hrs, but after we started eating it we reset it for an extra 1.5 hrs...the recipe said 5-8 hrs, but the veggies were a little crisper than we would've liked). And we have TONS of extras.we are only 2 people,...we have servings for at least 6.
So we're going to give some to his parents tomorrow and we have some for lunch, and then there's more which we don't know what to do with yet. That's not mentioning the extra veggies C cut- our new crock pot is only 5 qt., and I guess the recipe was for a bigger crock, because we had a ton of veggies that we had to take out just to make room for the meat! So we will probably make a stir fry with the extras in C's new-ish wok! Oh and P.S. C had  to get his wok in NYC's Chinatown. No other wok would do (I suggested one from Macy's or JC Penny's...obviously that was not "authentic" enough).
I would include a list of things I hope to accomplish tomorrow, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. Planning would mean taking on the guilt of things I do not actually accomplish tomorrow, and I don't want any of that. Though I do hope to get a Swimming Monkey from Target. I mean, how cute is he??!

So for now, I'll just enjoy my belly full of stew (and beer!), the ending of the Saints/Falcons game (hey, I think the Saints just won! ....Not that it matters much, Eagles are already the NFC East Champions- woot woot!! Can't wait to see them tomorrow!), and enjoy our fireplace!

Almost Done Shopping!

I am almost done Christmas shopping! Hooray!

C spent all of yesterday shopping. Best Buy, Barnes and Noble (I don't actually know why he was there- they didnt have what we needed, and I wound up just ordering the things online anyway), and the Mall (dun dun duuuuun!) Though we had to go back to the mall when I got home because he forgot his Macy's coupon! I'm so glad I've *started* to get him into using coupons- you save so much! He was able to get his old student a really nice jacket taht was supposed to be at least $70 (on sale) for only $40!
So of course I also had to grab my free lip item with any purchase coupon for Bath & Body Works- I bought $1.50 PocketBac (woulda been a dollar, but it was one of the holiday edition ones...smelly yummy!) and got a $7 lip gloss!
What I love about this lip gloss is....erm...everything!!! Seriously- a hint of color, supa shine, and mint taste and smell...and ultra-hydrating. And $7.50 (but now free?!) ...best.thing.ever. I seriously own at least 3 of these. In different colors for the seasons, obvi!

And my free Sea Salt french fries coupon from Wendy's! We have been wanting to try them since we first saw the commercials. But I didn't really taste anything different than normal fries, which was a bit disappointing.

I've Got "Cheryl Lynn - Got To Be Real" In My Head...

C has been complaining lately. He's been complaining that I don't write "real" blog entries. Whatevs.

I think a lot. And then, I try to forget.

I don't know why I do this, but I do. So I distract myself with TV, reading other people's blogs, magazines, anything I find interesting on the interwebs...and do memes. I guess it's just easier to write when I'm given a specific question to answer and write about. I don't have to think as much. I get lazy. And I try to forget.

It's not that I don't have things to say- I do. I spend half my days thinking of interesting things to write about. I have almost as many "drafts" of posts that I do "published" ones. True story.

Some things are happy, but more are sad. And then I feel bad that I'm thinking negative thoughts and about to post them, because who wants to read (and rethink) negative thoughts all the time? Not me. But then I think "Well, it's my blog, I can write whatever I want." Especially since most of my "followers" are only "following" because they thought I would follow them back. [This is one of the things that has been bothering me for awhile. If I don't find your blog interesting, I'm not going to follow you. {I mean "interesting" in the broadest extent of the word...like sometimes I won't follow because you may have a family of five, and be a stay at home mom, which I think is cool, but I can't really relate...like, at all.} But I make no pretense of this. I never comment on other's like "Hey, found you from where ever!  I'm your newest follower! Would love you if you followed me back! insert link to their blog here."  In fact, if they don't make/add some comment about whatever I've written, I won't check out their blog. I think it's kinda rude to be all up on my blog, commenting about your blog, and not even have said one thing about what I wrote. Just sayin'.]

But, I spend most of my days in a perpetual state of being pleasant and shit. (I'm in customer service...sort of. So I gotta be nice.) I'm always smiling, always trying to be accommodating to whatever my coworkers/bosses ask, always welcoming coworkers and visitors with an enthusiastic "Good morning! Good afternoon! How can I help you?" Most of my coworkers love this about me. I'm always happy.

But I'm not. My coworker friends have said that they don't understand how I put up with half the shit I do, and how I can always be so nice and friendly. It never used to be, but it's become a chore. I used to be that happy all the time for real. Like I was on Prozac or something. But now most days, I smile and then say something completely mean and inappropriate under my breath. I know, it's awful. And usually I don't mean whatever it is I've said. I'm just annoyed.

I'm annoyed because I'm bored.

That's right, I said it. I'm bored at work. Not due to inactivity per say...my days are usually busy doing meaningless shit for people. Things that they can do for themselves but are too lazy/incompetent/"self-important". (This is also one of the things that has been pissing me off for quite a while. Can ya tell?) And, to BE completely rude and self-important myself,...

I didn't spend over $40K a year in private school and bury myself in debt so high I can just barely see over just to be someone's bitch. And I.DON'T.LIKE.IT.
But ya know, it pays the bills.

So. I'm done with being Prozac happy in my private, bloggy life. It's time to get real. And if that means negative, shitastic blog posts, so be it. (Minus of course the occasional-ish meme, because truth be told, I really do still like them.) This may mean less blog posts, but ya know what they say, quality over quantity. (Plus, writing "real" blog posts like this is exhausting.)

Oh, and I do realize that after publishing this post, I may lose half my "fanbase" but whatevs. As Marilyn Monroe said...

I`m selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control, and at times hard to handle, but if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

Well said, Ms. Monroe, well said.

Monday!

Questions:

1. How do you order your steak?
Medium well.

2. Are you superstitious about anything?
Yes! Black cat, breaking a mirror, opening an umbrella indoors, any Friday the 13th, and walking under a ladder are bad luck, throwing salt over your shoulder, knocking on wood...I think that's it. Oh, and bad things happen in threes.

A

4. When is the last time your wore a dress (for the guys...a suit)?

(3) What's the biggest turn off in someone of the opposite sex?
Cockiness. I really hate that. And yes, there's a huge difference between having good self esteem and being an a-hole with a big ego.

(4) If you HAD to change your first name, what would you change it to and why?
I would change it to my middle name because I like it and it was still given to me by my parents.

(5) What virtue is better: forgiveness or justice?
I would like to be a good religious person and say forgiveness,...ok, yes that's the better virtue. But personally I favor justice.

Tunery Tuesday: M.I.A. - It Takes Muscle

I loved M.I.A. since she first came out. I love her fusion of sounds, and how she dares to be different. Though I may not love her latest album as much as her first, I really like this one. Enjoy!

Now the fear got in me
It's got in me deep
It's where it's gonna stay and never leave.
Someone come lay my worry
Someone come kill my pain.
Someone come and put me on my feet again.

It takes a muscle to fall in love
It takes a muscle to fall in love
It takes a muscle to fall in love
It takes a muscle to fall in love

We gotta love one another
That's what the good man says
But i got too much trouble
Going on in my head
Someone come and pick up my love
Take it all away
Cause I could break down tomorrow
If I don't die today

it takes a muscle to fall in love
it takes a muscle to fall in love
it takes a muscle to fall in love
it takes a muscle to fall in love
Ay

Thursday Bug- Birthday Dinner Blues

Sometimes it helps to share with others what bugs your mind.
They may have a solution, a kind word, or a smile of encouragement.
This week my thursday bug is:

People keep pulling out of my birthday celebration.

Or not answering, which I think is far more rude. Seriously, I'm inviting you to join me in celebrating my special day. To not even respond...in this day when there are sooo many modes of communcation, is just beyond me. Especially since I'm asking you to please respond so I can make reservations. If you can't come, just tell me. I mean, I invited you becuase I consider you my friend, so why wouldn't you just tell me? I'm a fairly reasonable person. And I'd rather you tell me than just leave me hanging. And don't make me hound you. I've had to say to like 3 people "soo I haven't heard from you...are you able to make it?" I don't like having to do that, but I did it because I really want to see and celebrate with you. And one of those people was like "I'll let you know love!" Now...if you are married (not a great excuse, but will get some acceptance from me), or have children (because it would involve finding a babysitter or something), that would be acceptable. But just saying that to shut me up is not acceptable. Especially when you don't actually let me know anything. That's just lame in my opinion. And you are not being a very good friend. And putting "love" at the end of it doesn't excuse you either.

Some people can't make it because I gave late notice and they have other plans. FINE! I get that! But I'd rather they say that than "I'll let you know" or nothing at all! (And for the person who has something else they must attend but is still making the effort to come- THANK YOU! You.Are.Fabulous! And also to my favorite vegans- I know I didn't pick a very veg-friendly restaurant. THANK YOU for making alternate plans with me!)

But ya know what bugs me even more than not getting a response or getting blown off? Cancelling last minute. Ya know why? Because I emailed saying let me know if you are coming so I can make reservations. Therefore if you cancel last minute, I have to change that reservation. And sometimes (like in my case) the place I  choose is dependent on how many people RSVP. I wanted to have my birthday dinner at one place. But because of the number of people who RSVP'ed, I had to change it because if you have groups over a certain size, it is mandatory that you get a $45 3 course prix-fixe menu (and that doesn't include tax, gratuity, or taxes). I don't want to lock my guests into such a pricey dinner. If they want to order an expensive dish, let them, but I don't think everyone should be forced to pay at least $60. So I had to change my place to accomodate more people, and now 4 people pulled out. 4. Two the day before and two on the day of the dinner. Seriously???

I feel a little better. Le sigh.

Tunery Tuesday: The Daylights- I Hope This Gets To You

I just thought this was too cute to share. (Shut up C, I don't care if it's a true story or not- i BELIEVE!)Plus, I like the song. Enjoy!

On Nov. 28, Walter posted this video for his girlfriend who was moving across the country to Duke University for grad school. He tweeted about it, hoping that it would organically make its way across the web to her; their friends weren't allowed to say anything to her. On Dec. 1st, his message reached her.

It's Monday

Questions:

1. What is your favorite kind of cheese?
On sandwiches, American. But love mozzarella and Parmesan as well.

2. What size is your bed?
queen. that's one of the best things about vacation- we always get a king size- more room to roll around!

3. What is your most overused phrase?
"Like"... very Valley-Girl of me I know. I'm working on stopping that.

4. Green or purple grapes?
Green and seedless.

5. Shower, morning or night?
I used to be a night time only girl, because that way I could take my time, and I love sleep in the morning. But now I always take a shower in the morning because it really does help wake me up. And feel clean. But I still wash my hair at night because it's thick and takes forever to dry and I don't like leaving my house with wet hair unless it's the middle of summer.

(1) Who would play you in a movie?
I guess Zoe Saldana because she looks slightly similar. Jessica Alba because she's goofy but sweet and cute. And hot.

(2) Are you a good speller?
Usually, though you would never know it from reading my blog! I'm not great at remembering to use the spell check. Usually when I'm blogging I'm at work (shhh!) so I'm in a rush, or I'm tired (like right now!)

(3) Have you/ do you smoke cigarettes?
Plea the 5th...

(4) Have you ever won a trophy?
Many (not to toot my own horn..toot toot!) I've won for dance, cheerleading, soccer, basketball, and tennis. I used to be athletic. I won a trophy for "Most Musical" in Miss Pre-Teen New Jersey. Oh I also won one for "Best Speaker" on debate team. Actually it wasn't a trophy, it was a gavel. Hahah.

(5) Have you ever written (or started to write) a book?
No. But I have considered trying to get one of my journals published. There's some good stuff in there!

1. What's on the top of your holiday wish list and why?!
A NookColor e-reader. And I'm getting it! It's a double birthday/Christmas gift. I want one because I commute a lot and it's way lighter and less cumbersome than carrying books around. Plus, it has WiFi, which means I can read all your lovely blogs on the go!

2. What is your favorite Christmas gift from the past?
That is a VERY hard question. I got a car once, when I was 17. That was pretty amazing. I got a digicam 2 years ago, my first ever. Last year I got an iPod, which, like the e-reader, is awesome because it's pretty boring commuting with no music. I also love the time I got a "Little Blue Box." And my first pair of diamond earrings. Oooh, and this year I also am getting a gorgeous diamond bracelet!

3. If you had life to do over, what would you be when you grow up?
I still have time! Unfortunately, I have no idea what I want to be anymore. I like working in higher education, so maybe a Multicultural Recruiter/Admissions person. Or guidance counselor in a high school.

4. When do you put up your tree?
Today. But a little late for that! Hopefully sometime this week or next Saturday.

5. What is your favorite Holiday?
Christmas and 4th of July. Christmas for giving/getting presents, the 4th for food, great company, and warm weather. Oooh I love New Years too, because it's a time of new beginnings.

Fun Fridays
Tonight: I went to check out a couple of spots for my birthday dinner. Now I'm home watching Sex and the City with a cold one, and eating dinner soon.

Tomorrow: I plan on getting my birthday dress altered, getting my new beautiful diamond birthday present bracelet altered (it's too big), going to Children's Place to get some cute clothes for my godson for Christmas, and going to the State Theater in New Brunswick to see some of C's students perform at Slam: Falling Sideways. I have absolutely no idea what this performance is...is it dance? hip hop? poetry? acrobatics? gymnastics? a play? a musical? I have no clue. The little promo card we got from his students is not helpful at all.

Sunday: Going to Hoboken to a friend's house for our annual Girls Football Day for our girls football league. A day of eating, drinking, and watching football...a true Sunday Funday!

It's Friday! I love Fridays! I just saw this clip of David Beckham....I love his accent! Here's a Friday Funny for ya! Have a great weekend!

Sharing is Caring

I saw this over at Shelley's "Hand in Hand" and it looked like fun, so here's some info on C and I!

1. What are your middle names? Mine is Melanie, his is Anthony.

2. How long have you been together?
2 years and 2 months on Dec. 25!

3. How long did you know each other before you started dating?
We knew who each other were for about 4 years before we started dating. One of my best friends from college was dating his best friend/roommate. We met at my friend's birthday party, and would continue to see each other annually at her birthday parties until 2008. This is one of the first pictures I have of him, taken in July of 2006 at him and his roommates' annual "July 4th Jimmy Jam". He the one on the near right.

(and look, he's wearing sunglasses so i don't even have to black out his eyes!)

4. Who asked who out? He asked me out officially at his friend from home, David, 's wedding. While we were dancing. Very romantic <3

5. How old are each of you?
I will be 27 this month, and C just turned 32. I like older men!

6. Did you go to the same school?
Nope

7. Are you from the same home town?
Nope. He's from Cenrtal Jerz, I'm from North Jerz. As his friend likes to say, "Gotta get the good ones up north!" Damn skippy.

8. Who is the smartest?
I think he is. He knows a lot on a lot of different topics.

9. Who majored in what?
I majored in Psychology and he majored in History and Education.

10. Who is the most sensitive?
Probably me.

11. Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
I think Hawaii. We went for our friend's destination wedding. Though that will be beat next year when we go to India for the two that got us together's wedding! I love our friends!

At The Old Lahaina Luau in Maui, HI
12. Who has the worst temper?
Him. Hands down!

13. How many children do you want?
I would like at least one...2 depending on how painful the first one is. I think he wants 2. Not sure. We'll see when we get there!

14. Who does the cooking?
Ha! Him! Otherwise we would surely starve!

15. Who is more social?
I am, for sure. But he likes hanging out in small groups with close friends.

16. Who is the neat freak?
Neither. But I am the one usually the one who keeps things tidy and nags him to at least put away his clothes!

17. Who is the most stubborn?
He is. But I'm a close second.

18. Who wakes up earlier?
He does. Always. He takes for.ev.er to get ready in the morning!

19. Where was your first date?
Hmmm. I believe the first actual date I almost stood him up. We were supposed to meet at the Museum of Natural History. I was really, really, late, and he was apparently tired of waiting out in the cold for me, so by the time I showed up (at the wrong museum...at least an hour late), he was in a cab heading to the train station, about to go back home. But he still met me, outside Radio City Music Hall. Then we got a bit to eat, and went to a different museum (possibly the MoMa?) and we watched a movie at the museum. At the end of it he was like "They didn't talk a lot." He was right, because it was an opera!!

20. Who has the bigger family?
He does.

22. How do you spend the holidays?
I usually do both my mom and his family, sometimes in the same day. But I think he's going to have to start joining me before my mom start to feel jilted.

23. Who is more jealous?
Me, even though he doesn't give me a reason to be. I think he finds it amusing when others flirt with me.

24. How long did it take to get serious?
Not long at all. It was a matter of weeks. <-- Ditto!

25. Who eats more?
He does.

26. What do you do for a living?
I work as an office manager at a college, and he is a high school History teacher.

27. Who does the laundry?
I do it. Sometimes he helps me fold though. And he has to make the bed when I do the sheets, because he's very particular about it and I can't deal with his fussing.

28. Who's better with the computer?
I think I am.

29. Who drives when you are together?
Being that I don't have a car and he hasn't taught me how to drive stick shift yet, he does.

30. What is your song?
He thinks it's "Kiss u Thru Da Phone" by Soulja Boy. Ugh. I don't even like that song. But before we were living together he lived almost 2 hours away, so we would only see each other on weekends and sometimes once during the week, so he would give me kisses on phone calls. And then the song came out. We need a new song though.

Monday Funday

(1) What's your favorite fast food establishment?
Lately it's Burger King, but I like Taco Bell once in a while as well.

(2) What's your favorite sport to watch on TV?
I like football cause I can watch it with C.

(3) Do you like mushrooms and onions?
Umm...no.

(4) If you had to get a tattoo tomorrow, what would you get done?
Why do I have to? Am I going to die unless I get a tat? If so, then a heart with wings and a crown. Kinda like this, minus the skull in the crown:

(5) What are your thoughts on the female proposing marriage to the male?
Not for it. I'm all for a girl asking a guy out or for a phone number, but I feel that the guy is only truly ready for marriage when he does the asking. Plus, it's way more romantic. And I am a romantic at heart <3

Questions:

1. What is your favorite way to eat chicken?
With mozzerella cheese and marinara sauce :)

2. Have you decorated for Christmas yet?
No. I don't really feel like a house is decorated without a tree. We're getting one next Saturday.

3. What is your favorite article of clothing?
Hmm. I love jeans. And sweats when I'm home.

4. Do you pay your bills online or write checks the old way?
I pay my rent with a check, but the others I pay online.

5. Do you make Christmas cookies?
No, but hopefully I will this year! I just received an email from a friend for a girls baking day! Never heard of such a thing, but it also involves booze, so I'm in!

A Few Good Quotes

So after shampooing the carpet yesterday, we decided that today we should tidy up...the rest. I got the dining room table, which was so cluttered we wound up eating dinner on our coffee table in the living room. It was quite a Hoarders moment!

I make lists of everything. I see something really true, cute, or something that makes me laugh, I write it down. So while I was cleaning up, I found this list of quotes I had collected. Enjoy!

"Sometimes it's best to remain silent about the good things being birth in your life. Not everyone can appreciate your joy!"

"The teacher is always silent when the test is given. When God is silent in your life, you are being tested."

"When you forgive people, it's because you still want them in your life."

"The problem with life is that it's so daily."

"Quickly, bring me a beaker of wine, so that I may wet my mind and say something clever." -Aristophanes

Thanksgiving and then Some

You Are Festive

You are an open minded, happy go lucky person. You don't need a reason to celebrate.

You are prone to overindulgence. You have a hedonistic streak, and you enjoy spoiling yourself.

You find yourself liking so many things, it's sometimes hard to juggle them all.

You prefer to have busy, adventure filled days. There's so much to do that you rarely get bored.

Ahhh, so true! I love quick quizzes!
I have returned! Oh joy! I have been a bit...distracted...by work. Distracted and pissed off, hence my lack of blogging. I don't like ranting unless I have a good reason for it, and I think I was just being more whiny than ranty. But anyway, I'm back! And I am loving this mini-vacation I'm having! I've been off since Wednesday! Woot woot!
C had a half day on Wednesday, so a little while after he came home, we went out to Borders. We each had a 50% off one item coupon, and the store close to us is going out of business, so the other stuff we bought was 30% off! Unfortunately I can't say what I got, but we bought quite a few things, for not a lot of moolah. Always a plus! Then I went to get my brows and nails done. I hate getting "done" unless it's hair. It's always painful- I don't understand why so many people love it. But I did get an awesome color:

[credit]

Then we came home and I made 2 pumpkin pies, one for my great aunts, and one to take by C's family dinner.

Thanksgiving day was...busy. I was up at 7:30, got ready, and got on a train to NYC to see mom.

I was surprised by how crowded it was. Not like, regular commuter-time crowded, but still more than I expected. Usually on weekends and holidays it's pretty dead. I was just happy to get a window seat. So that took an hour and a half until I was in Penn Station. I had totally forgotten, however, that it was right in the heart of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. HAAA!

But amazingly, Penn Station wasn't more crowded than usual either. Odd.

But then I had to board a subway to go up to 100-something street to meet my mom, so we could go to my (fake) great aunts' apartment. (They are not really related. They are the aunts of our very good family friends, who we have done Thanksgiving with in the past. But they are in Florida, so we visited the aunts). That took another hour. I like going there because they are some of the best cooks, and very nice, however, I don't speak Spanish, and they don't speak English, so communication is difficult to say the least. Luckily, my mom plays translator (though she likes to add her own commentary, but that's another story). The plan was to "stop in", drop off one of the pumpkin pies and some flowers, say hello, and leave. Then we were going to go downtown and see a movie like we do on most holidays. But, like most occasions with my mom, it did not go as planned. Even so though, it went off without a hitch- no fighting! At all! Miraculous! We got there a little before 12, and they wanted to feed us (very Hispanic/Latin trait, but I'm still not used to it)! And with the aunts, you

DO.NOT.SAY. NO. It's not allowed.

So we sat down and ate. And I am soooo glad we did. The turkey was absolutely delish. I don't know how they did it. I think they said something about leaving it in vinegar for over 24 hours to kill germs or something, and then roasting for...like, a long time. After I heard about the vinegar I did not want it at all- for sure I thought it would taste ya know, bitter. But it was moist- like melt in your mouth. It was served with black beans and rice, candied yams, and this stuffing that was...different, but in a good way. I believe they said something about having ground beef and possibly sausage in it. I wish I had a picture to share, but unfortunately, I forgot my camera, and didn't think to take one with my camera phone. But, you'll just have to take my word on it- a huge, gorgeous turkey, roasted to perfection, and scrumptious sides. Actually, here's a decent example:

Except, substitute the plantains with caramelized sweet potatoes, darker gravy on the rice with beans, and pumpkin pie instead of flan. Oooh and they served us wine! Before 12! Scandalous indeed!!

So, that was filling. And delicious. But by the time we were done with that, it was time to head back to Central Jersey. On the train. Which was very crowded. I was lucky to get any seat at that point. But I made do. C picked me up at the train station, and we had just enough time to go to Thanksgiving dinner at his  aunt's house. His parents, and one of his cousin's and his family were there already, but I wouldn't say we were late by any means. Before and after dinner, we were all looking through these old pictures that were taken out. It was funny to see C so young...and boy, did he have his own "style"! Very, very....interesting.

The meal itself was completely traditional and delicious. I liked their candied yams better- less...candy. I don't like super sweet stuff. Have I mentioned that Thanksgiving dinner is one of my absolute favorite meals?!? It really is. And everyone looooooved my pumpkin pie. :D  Really, his aunt was surprised that even his little cousins liked it. Hooray!!

Today we have been super lazy as well. We slept in, then watched movies until about 4. Then we got up and out,...to go rent a carpet shampooer. Who wants to shampoo the carpet after a day of lazing around? Apparently C. So we moved everything around, I vaccuumed, and then he shampooed. It looks (and smells) great in here! And now he's cooking dinner. *my hero!*

I have yet to try my pie. There is a sliver in the fridge calling my name...I think I'm gonna go answer it! Hey, one of my favorite slogans- "Life's short, eat dessert first!"

*nom nom nom*

Five on Friday

To Play, click here!

1. What is your favorite part of a Thanksgiving meal?
Stuffing. And pumpkin pie.

2. Are you a host or a guest for Thanksgiving this year?
Guest every year, and definitely like it that way!

3. When you think of one Thanksgiving tradition, what comes to mind?
In general, I think of men watching football. For me, it's going to the movies with my mom and watching like, 3 at a time, sneaking in obviously! We didn't get a chance to do that this year though.

4. You have two pieces of pie in front of you and you HAVE to eat one...do you choose pumpkin or pecan?
Umm PUMPKIN!!

5. Are you a Black Friday Shopper?
No no NO! I have gone in the past, but that was before people were literally killing each other to get a good deal. No thank you. I got a great deal on Black Friday ONLINE, and I plan to buy a few more things online on Cyber Monday, but I am not interested in literally fighting off crowds for a steal.

Sunday Stealing: Questions a la Randomness, A Meme

Cheers to all of us thieves!

What was the last thing you put in your mouth?
Coffee.

Can you play Guitar Hero?
Haha, I have, but I wouldn't say I did it well!

How late did you stay up last night and why?
11:30. I was tired before that, but was fighting sleep to watch the end of When in Rome. Such a cute movie.

If you could move somewhere else, would you?
Yes!! I would move closer to work! Not very exciting, but it's such a fun town, and close to NYC, not to mention saving myself massive amounts of money and stress with no commuting!

Have you ever been kissed under fireworks?
Yes! But not in recent years because at the usual Fourth of July Jimmy-Jam, C is one of the one's setting off the fireworks. Men!

Do you believe ex’s can be friends?
Not if they were in love. Or maybe so, but not for a really long time. Still testing that one out.

When was the last time you cried really hard?
Errrmmm... I really can't remember, which I would say is a good thing!

What items could you not go without during the day?
Coffee, my cell phone, my ipod, money or my ATM card, my driver's license (form of ID is always important, never know what's gonna happen!),... I think that's it.

Who was the last person you visited in the hospital?
I think my grandpa.

How do you feel about your life right now?
It's ok. I really need to start moving forward though. I've been a bit stagnant lately, and I need to begin re-focusing my goals and setting up a plan to reach them. But in general I'm happy.

If we were to look in your facebook inbox, what would we find?
Lots of unread messages and approx. 3 pokes. I've had a poke-war with these people for years-  I'm not gonna give in first!

Say you were given a drug test right now, would you pass?
For sure. I don't do drugs...unless you count alcohol.

Has anyone ever called you perfect before?
Yes, but I was able to prove them wrong.

What song is stuck in your head?
"If It's Love" by Train. I love it- it's been on replay on my ipod a lot lately, even though it's not very new anymore.

Someone knocks on your window at 2:00 a.m.: who do you want it to be?
"Ed McMahon"- good answer! I can't think of anyone else I'd want knocking at my window at 2 AM unless C isn't with me.

Do you think too much or too little?
I think too much about things of too little importance.

Where are your feet right now?
In crew socks, in fuzzy slippers, tucked under my chair.

Do you believe in fairy tales?
No, but I like them. I'm a huge fan of happy endings.

Have you ever licked the back of a CD to try to get it to work?
Yes. I've also tried blowing on it Nintendo-style!

Do you like pickles?
Not in the least.

What’s the largest age difference between yourself and someone you’ve dated?
6 or 7 years. My mom was not too pleased with that one.

Have you ever been on a blind date?
Nope.

Do you have any friends that you’ve known for 10 years or more?
Yes, but just a few.

Are you a good tipper?
I give the standard if they do a good job. If not, than they definitely see it in the tip (or lack thereof!).

What’s the most you have spent for a haircut?
Somewhere around $150. I have to say it was well worth it though, and if I had that much I would surely do it again, or at least at the same place.

Have you ever had a crush on a teacher?
I have a crush on a teacher now (Hi, C!) ! Other than him, no.

What song do you want played at your funeral?
"I'm Like A Bird" by Nelly Furtado and "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston. I actually have a list. A bit morbid, perhaps. But whatevs, it's my funeral, I want it done right!

Would you tell your parents if you were gay?
Yes. I had a friend who didn't for years, and though it almost killed his dad, they were able to work it out. I can't imagine not loving your child just because of his/her sexual orientation. Plus, I wouldn't want to live a lie. We should be free to love whoever we want.

What would your last meal be before getting executed?
Thanksgiving. I want turkey, mashed potatoes (sweet or regular), gravy, cranberry sauce, mac and cheese, stuffing, green beans, (to name some parts) and finishing off with pumpkin pie. It is my fave meal, but just slightly above chicken parm. If they're gonna give my some dry-ass turkey, then just give me the chicken parm.

Do you walk around the house naked?
I have, but not all the time.

What do you do as soon as you walk in the house?
Put down whatever I'm carry.

Who is the person you can count on the most?
C. Without question. My mom is good, but she's not very dependable.

What did you dream last night?
I don’t remember.

Have you ever been in love?
Yup, I'm in love now!

Do you sing in the shower?
Occasionally. I used to sing a lot more when I was younger. But then came college- you can't sing in the shower in the dorms without everyone thinking you're a freak. Now I occasionally do it if C isn't home!

What is your favorite Holiday?
My birthday. It should be a national holiday. Other than that one,  I think New Year's Eve/Day. A time f new beginnings.

Would you ever get plastic surgery?
I don't think so. I would love some new boobs, but I can't handle pain.

Have you ever caught a fish?
I have!! Nothing big, but definitely have gone fishing and caught several fish!

What is your favorite lunch meat?
Turkey.

Do you still have your tonsils?
Yes

What is your favorite cereal?
Coco Krispies

Do you untie your shoes when you take them off?
Not usually.

What is your favorite ice cream?
Chocolate chip mint, followed closely by pumpkin pie and ice cream cake flavored ice cream (it's got the crunchies in it!)

What is the first thing you notice about people?
Height? If they are closer, then eyes and/or smile.

What is the farthest you’ve been from home?
I don't know what's farther, Hawaii, or the top of (one of the) Alps in Switzerland. One of those.

How did you meet your spouse or significant other (or most recent one)?
Through mutual friends.

Where was the last place you drove (other than home/school/work)?
I haven't driven in years. I think the very last time was moving my car across the street for parking purposes.

Tunery Tuesday: Florence and the Machine- Dog Days Are Over

I can't believe it's Tuesday already!! AAAAHHH!!
Though yesterday was super busy, I was actually quite successful. I had a meeting with (one of) my boss(es), and it went well! FOR ONCE! Halle-freakin-juah! See, he put me on the new task force he created recently, and he has been such a damn PITA about every little thing...it's super annoying. Like, I can't make any decisions without checking with him first- he likes micro-management. I hate it. But whatever, it's his project and I agreed to work on it- hell, I was excited to start a new project, so I can't really complain though I totally will.

Then at night C and I went to our friend's place to watch the Eagles vs. Redskins...ya know, McNabb vs. Vick. HOLY SMOKES!!! I wasn't really interested in football at all until I joined an all-girls fantasy league and even now I'm not that into it but anyway. So anyway, I have Vick on my fantasy team, and he blew up last night! He scored me an extra 46 points!!!!  Not to mention I was already beating the girl I was up against by the end of Sunday night by 45 points! She didn't stand a chance! I hope the Eagles can do it again next week against the Giants!!

Anywho, without further ado, I give you 2 baby videos. They are SO. CUTE. And I am totally loving this song too- very upbeat and fun...I'm doing my chair dance a la the dancing baby!

And just for shits and giggles...Enjoy!

I'm a Maxx-inista!

Sorry for the grumpiness yesterday. I just don't understand why some people do what they do. Anyway, last night definitely got rid of any and all grumpiness-- my momma took me out shopping for my birthday! (Which isn't until next month, but I don't mind one bit!) Actually, she started working part time at the brand-spankin-new TJ Maxx at Columbus Circle in NYC, and she had discounts because it was the opening day of the store, and she said I could get whatever I want!

WHAAAT! Ummm suuuuure, thanks!

If there's one thing I don't mind doing with momma, it's shopping. Though she doesn't seem to understand my style at all anymore. She kept picking up these slutty less conservative pieces for me, like midriff baring shirts?? I guess I used to dress more...provocative...back in the day, but now I'm a working woman (wait....that sounds like the opposite of what I was trying to say...oh, whatever) with a long-term, steady boyfriend! Plus, I've simmered down a bit...ya know, living out in the sticks and all, and there's nowhere to where such nake-y pieces to anymore, and somewhere along the way I lost the interest to do so.

All in all, I only spent about $120. Not too shabby for about 5 sweaters and a pair of gor-ge-ous Guess heels that go absolutely perfectly with the little black dress I raved about on Wednesday! I've decided I'm going to wear that to my birthday dinner...which reminds me, I have to purchase it stat before they're out of my size!

My fave (sweater) purchase:
Cotton and angora pullover, crew neck sweater with a detachable ribbed cowl neck.

Long sleeves, ribbed cuffs and hem, silver designer-embossed tag at side of hem.
Perfect piece for fall days, like today, and incredibly versatile. Wear this sweater three ways!
1. As shown above 2. As a crew neck pullover 3. Instead of a scarf, wear the cowl neck with any outfit

------------------------------------------------------------------

Hop on over to My Little Life to participate!

1. What is the most physically painful thing that has ever happened to you?

Hmmm... I've actually been very lucky *knock on wood*. I guess the worst was before I started taking BC. I would have to take off from work because I was doubled over in pain due to cramps, and sometimes even getting physically ill. Monthly.

2. How much sleep do you get at night?
about 7 hours, give or take about a half hour

3. How long did you believe in Santa Claus? How did you find out that he does not exist?
Wait...what?? He's not REAL?!? Ugh this is THE WORST way to find out!

4. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?
It may have been Eat Pray Love. I think. It's been awhile.

5. What do you wear to bed?
Nothin. *wink* But I lounge in sweats or yoga pants and a tee when I get home from work.

Fun Fridays
Head on over to A Girl in Pearls and a Boy with Toys to participate!

I was planning on either staying in tonight or going to the movies with C (not that I even know what's out, but it sounded like a good idea), but then my good friend A invited us and another couple out for dinner- specifically Trenton Tomato Pie. I looooove tomato pie- it was actually one of me and C's first dates. If you've never heard of such a thing, which wouldn't be so odd because I'd never heard of it and I'm from New Jersey, it is:

"Compared to every other kind of pizza, Trenton tomato pies are put together backwards. Cheese and toppings go on first. Only then comes the tomato sauce—seasoned, crushed plum tomatoes, to be precise—spooned on with the individual pizzamaker’s signature flair.

It wouldn’t be a true tomato pie if there was tomato sauce in every bite, as in a regular pizza. You don’t want sameness in every bite. You want the tomatoes to have a bit of bulk and gather themselves in little red hillocks on the pie.
...there is one name synonymous with Trenton pizza—specifically, tomato pie—it is DeLorenzo." -from here.

So tonight we are going to DeLorenzo's! Woot woot!
Tomorrow C has to teach Saturday school half day, and then we need to run some errands, and do some of the basic straightening up/clean up, because on Sunday we have his cousin's kid's 4th (?) birthday party.

What are your weekend plans? Happy Weekend!
