Friday Favorites

Today is my new boss's last day (my old boss resigned in February). She actually resigned last June, but then her new job fell through, so she stayed on here and was telecommuting from AZ for the past year, but we've just filled her position. I'm not exactly sad because we never really got along very well, but she's one of the few people who have been here almost as long as I have, and I don't like the revolving door this office has become. The new guy is starting on Monday. I'm not sure if I'll be reporting directly to him, or someone else, as there have been a lot of organizational changes up in here. Did I mention that my entire department is also being moved to a whole other building, off campus (I work at a college)? So August 1 there will be (literal) upheaval. The whole "not knowing" aspect coupled with the sheer amount of changes going on are making me incredibly anxious. I don't know who I report to, where we'll be moving TO, nor what exactly I'm even doing anymore. I think it's time to make my changes of my own.. I've already started working on my resume and sending it to friends for edits but soon after I'll be keeping my eyes and ears open for new opportunities. But before any of that, I'm kicking off the weekend with some faves from the week with Amanda.

Favorite Song: Corinne Bailey Rae came out with some music recently! This isn't it, but rather an older song that feels like spring, "Paris Nights, New York Mornings."

Favorite Recipe: Hoping to make this for breakfast on Sunday!

Avocado Bacon and eggs - one of our favorite breakfast recipes. They're topped with cheese and so delicious!

Favorite Video: Back in 2011, Mac Miller gained fame with his hit "Donald Trump." Now he's made a mash-up using Trump's "Make America Great Again" campaign, and its' pretty spot on!

Favorite Quote: Re-post from Being Beth's IG.

  • I haven't been able to put together my thoughts and feelings about the recent Stanford rape case in a logical, cohesive fashion, so I'm highlighting a few blogs that I whole heartedly agree with and have done a far better job expressing themselves than I could.
  • And now apparently Mr. Turner is getting out 3 MONTHS EARLIER. I cannot begin to fully express my rage at this news.
  • Moving on... Can someone in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Texas please try the "Whopperito" and tell me how it is? It's not being sold nation-wide :(
  • All you bloggers are surely aware that it's Bath and Body Works semi-annual sale, amiright? But did you know that this weekend those coveted 3-wick candles are only $10?
  • Also, Madison Square Eats pop-up food market is now open for the month in the plaza next to Madison Square Park in NYC. Can't wait to check out some of the newcomers!

Cheers to the freakin weekend!

  3. I've been thinking about that Donald Trump song!! I remember I liked it back in the day, and it popped in my head and I was so ashamed!! Ha! I need to remember to watch that video. Uh we basically did the exact same thing with the Stanford rape case today! I highlighted some good posts about it...including all four that you listed!! That sexism/racism/privilege graphic is so damn true...and heartbreaking!

  4. Hahahaha that fries meme!!! And Mario!!! I read all those Stanford posts throughout the week and I still cant articulate my thoughts the way I want to. Such a huge injustice! Good luck with your work situation. I am not a fan of change and unknowns. Hope you have a great weekend!

  5. OMG that Kermit meme! I like it. I like it a lot. And thanks for the mention. This whole thing has my heart hurting like crazy.

  6. Oh lol! "ovary act" BHAHAHA. I can tell you... my work situation sounds A LOT like yours. I'm so sorry and can empathize 100%. I also work at a university... trend? I am currently at the place of being emotionally over-stimulated. I can't think anymore about the Stanford rape case or the like, or about Orlando. My heart is too sad. These things are important. I absolutely commend anyone contributing to the conversation... but I don't have anything new to say, and I'm just too emotional about it all. I don't even know if that makes sense.. .but every time I think to post something... it's not "enough".. and so... I'm just kind of doing a silent hurting thing right now. XO - Alexandra

  7. Sorry to hear about work, that is so crazy. I too would be looking into other opportunities. I wouldn't be able to deal with all the uncertainty. It would just eat at me. 6 Months is a joke, I can't even...it's such an injustice.

  8. I work at a college too! We also seem to have a decent amount of turnover in our department, and, whether or not management wants to admit it, they are the main reason. That's super weird that they are moving your entire department off of campus. Is there just not enough room on campus? Uncertainty makes me so anxious. I hope that you either find something better or that your new supervisor is able to organize things better.

The Stanford rape case is beyond upsetting. I'm pissed that this kid, his entire family and the judge just don't seem to get it. Take some freaking responsibility!

I often stay inside because it's too peopley out there! I wish I could have figured out how to block everyone on FB early on. Luckily I did figure out how to limit what they can see.
